Let’s Make a Gingerbread House!
Color in the Template
Color in all the elements of the Gingerbread House template. You can chose to either color in the house to create your own fun design or use the shapes as stencils and cut them out of colored card stock.
Draw around the House element of the Template
Draw around the main house element of the template. This will be the front of your gingerbread house – we’ve opted for a burnt orange color.
Cut out the house shape.
Draw around the Door element of the Template
Draw around the door element of the template twice – one will be cut in half to create an open and shut function.
Draw around the Window element of the Template
Draw around both of the window elements – these shapes will become the window shutters.
Cut the additional Window shapes in Half
Fold the window shapes in half.
Cut the windows in half by cutting along the fold line.
Tear some White and Blue Card Stock for the Background
Take the colored card stock and tear it into interesting shapes to create a unique background.
Glue each strip of card stock on top of the other to create interesting and random layers.
We’ve chosen to create a snowy mountain background for our gingerbread house by layering blue card against torn white card.
Glue the House on to the Background
Apply glue to the house element and affix to the middle of the page.
Glue on the Chimney and the Roof
Apply glue on to the chimney. Stick this piece down first. Then apply glue on to the roof element and stick that on top of the other pieces.
Glue on the Door and Gingerbread Man
Apply glue to the first door piece and addax it to the house.
We’ve chosen to have one of our little gingerbread friends inside the doorway!
Glue on the Front Door
Cut the extra door shape in half.
Create a fold in both flat edges and secure to either side of the door frame that’s already affixed to the gingerbread house. This will create an open and shut door to reveal the gingerbread man inside.
Glue on the Windows
Apply glue to each of the window elements and affix to the house.
Glue on the Window Shutters
Next, add the window shutters to each window.
Glue on the Candy
Complete the gingerbread house by decorating it with candy elements.
Add some Finishing Touches
Using acrylic paint pens or felt tip pens, add some extra details in the background.
We’ve chosen to use white and silver acrylic paint pens to add some snowflakes and falling snow. We’ve also added some swirly lines to give the impression of smoke from the chimney.
