Let’s Make a Flying Witch!
Prepare the Background
Step 1: Color in the moon and stars template.
Children can use any coloring medium from crayons to paint.
Once they’ve colored in the moon and stars, carefully cut out the elements from the template.
Step 2: Create the starry night backdrop.
Glue the moon to the bottom of a piece of black card stock and use the space above for the stars.
As an optional extra, use a white acrylic pen or white paint to draw little white dots between in the stars.
This not only creates the impression of distant stars but also adds contrast; nicely filling the blank space.
Step 3: Create two symmetrical holes.
Once the starry night back drop is complete, use a hole puncher to create two holes on either side of the backdrop.
Assembling the Paper Witch
Step 4: Trace the witch elements onto colored card stock.
Trace the triangular body piece twice onto contrasting pieces of card stock.
Alternatively, simply color in the witch elements.
Step 5: Add stripes for contrast to the witch’s body.
Cut one of the body pieces into strips and glue them to the other body element.
Step 6: Assemble the witch’s hat, hair and face.
Glue the hat on top of the hair and then both pieces directly onto the head shape.
Glue the eye onto the head shape and use a black marker pen to draw a little smile.
Step 7: Assemble the witch.
Glue the head, body and leg together to create the witch!
Step 8: Assemble the broomstick.
Glue the brush onto the end of the stick and cut little insertions into the brush to create a bristley effect.
Step 9: Glue a stand of string or yarn to the broomstick.
Next, turn the witch over and glue or tape a strand of string or yarn to the broomstick.
Step 10: Thread the strands through the holes on the starry backdrop.
Turn the witch over and thread either end of the strand through their nearest hole.
Step 11: Tie the strands in a knot.
Turn the backdrop over and tie the strands into a knot.
Step 12: The Paper Flying Witch Craft Idea for Halloween is complete!
Now the witch can fly over the moon by simply pulling the the yarn strand backwards and forwards from behind the backdrop.
