How to Make a Turtle Pop Up Card for Father’s Day:
Preparing the Template
Download the template onto white card stock.
Before printing, remember to check your printing settings for a recommended card weight. Most printers will not print onto card above 220 gsm.
Fill the template with colour!
Use paint or coloured pencils/crayons. The latter medium will be much quicker and less messy, as paint will need to fully dry before moving onto the next steps.
Once dry, cut the turtle elements.
Creating the Sand and Sky Background
Before starting the background, make sure the blue paper and yellow card stock is the same width.
Cut a wavy line (approx 5cm depth) into the blue paper.
This will become the sky.
Align the straight edge of the blue paper to the top of the straight edge of the yellow card stock.
Secure with glue.
The card now has defined sand and sky areas.
Fold the card in half.
Along the fold, secure the turtle’s feet (ensuring their a good distance apart) and shell with glue.
Making the Card “POP”
Fold the card in half.
Between the turtle legs (this may take some guess work), cut two even slits (approx 2cm apart).
Push the Strip Up Outside the Card
Take the newly cut strip and fold it away from the centre.
Push the Strip Inside the Card
Unfold the card and invert the paper between the slits.
Carefully Fold the card to close once the paper has been fully inverted.
Unfold the card to a 90′ angle.
The inverted selection of folded paper should now stand upright and ‘POP’ out from the page.
Adding the Finishing Touches to the
Turtle Pop Up Card
Glue the turtle’s head to the central fold.
And complete with a Father’s Day Message – Dad you are Turtley the Best!
Once you have learnt this simple pop-up card technique, anything could be made to “POP”.
