Let’s Make a Heart Pop Up Card!
Color in the Hearts
Let’s start with the pop-up card insert!
Select a favorite medium and color in the hearts.
Color in/ Cut Out the Pop Up Heart Elements
Arty Crafty Kids may decorate the hearts with colors and patterns OR use a single heart to trace onto colored cardstock.
Trace the Pop Up Heart Element onto Colored Card Stock
Create a maximum of 7 hearts for a full bodied looking heart.
Cut out the Traced Hearts
Carefully cut out the traced heart shapes.
Cut out the Heart Card Insert
Next, cut out the heart card insert.
The template includes are generous gap between the bold outline of the insert and the dotted line guide to accommodate developing scissor skills. This gives children ample room to work with.
Fold a Sheet of Colored Card Stock in Half
Fold a sheet of colored card stock in half.
Open up the card and affix the heart insert inside.
Fold the Cut out Pop Up Heart Elements in Half
Fold the pop up heart elements in half.
Align the straight edge of the heart fold along the center fold of the backing card.
Glue one half of the heart within the faint heart outline featured on the insert.
Layer the Pop Up Heart Elements
With the first heart secured to the backing card, layer the remaining hearts on top – gluing one half on top of the other.
Open the Hearts to Reveal the Pop Up Effect
Once all the heart halves are secured, apply a generous amount of the glue to the empty white space on the other side of the fold (keep the glue within the faint heart outline).
Gently open up the pile of hearts and secure the last fold to the backing card.
The heart will now “pop” when the card is opened.
