Let’s Make a Buzzy Bee!
Bubble Wrap Printing
Step 1: Apply a layer of paint to the bubble wrap.
As a personal preference, I tend to paint the bobbles of the bubble wrap with a paintbrush. This creates clean and crisp prints.
However, young children may prefer to simply dip their bubble wrap directly into paint. In this instance, less is more and try to offer a thin layer of paint for dipping.
Either way, the end result will be great!
Step 2: Turn the bubble wrap over and press down.
Gently peel the bubble wrap away from the hive to reveal the print.
Continue this process until the hive is full with bubble wrap prints.
Leave the hive to dry.
Cut Out the Template Elements
Step 3: Cut out the elements of the template.
Options: Colour in the bee’s body with yellow and black stripes OR trace around the body onto yellow paper.
Create a Branch
Step 4: Take a piece of brown paper and tear to create the shape of a branch.
Glue the branch to the top of the blue cardstock and add green paper leaves or tissue paper blossoms to the branch.
Finally, position the painted beehive to just under the branch and secure with glue.
Let’s Assemble the Bee!
Step 5: Trace the body of the bee onto yellow paper.
Cut out the yellow body.
Step 6: Use scissors or a paper cutter to create numerous black strips.
Glue the black strips to the yellow body to create the markings of a bee!
Trim the excess to size.
Step 7: Glue the bees head to the body.
Cut two short paper strips and curl the ends with a pencil.
Attach these curled paper strips to the back of the bees head.
Step 8: Complete the bee by attaching the wings!
The Accordion Fold – “Bobble”
Step 9: Using scissors or a paper cutter, cut out two even strips of coloured paper (or card for a better bounce, however it’s trickier for kids to fold) – ideally, the strips will be fairly wide and for length, I recommend cutting the paper from the shortest side of an A4 piece of paper or longest side of a piece of card.
Take the two strips and position them in a 90° angle as shown above. Glue the connecting papers together.
Fold the bottom strip over the top and crease the fold along the edge. This will make the accordion fold tight!
Step 10: Continue this process until all the is paper has been folded.
Seal the ends with glue.
Step 11: Glue one end of the bobble to the black card stock.
The Bobble Bee
Step 12: Glue the bee to the other end of the bobble.
The bee will now bounce and buzz upon its bobble!
