Let’s Make a 3D Paper Spider!
Trace the Spider Elements
Cut out the circular elements from the spider template.
Trace the large circle onto colored paper or card stock 6 times – try using different colors or alternating with two contrasting colors.
TIP: For best results, trace at least one of the circles onto card stock. If you do not have any to hand, use an old cereal box or something similar. This circle will need to support the spiders 3D paper body and pipe cleaner legs.
Punch 9 Threading Holes into the Spiders Body
Next, punch 9 holes into the one of the circular pieces.
Leave a space of approximately 3/4 fingers in one part of the circle – the spider’s head will be glued within this space!
Create 8 Pipe Cleaner Spider Legs
Cut 3 pipe cleaners into 8 even lengths.
This is a great measuring and counting activity for preschoolers and young children!
Thread Two Beads onto Each Spider Leg
Spiders legs have wonderfully spindly with pronounced segments. To capture this quality, add two pony beads to each of the spiders legs; positioning one about half way along the pipe cleaner and bending to secure, and another pony bead at the end of the leg, folding the pipe cleaner over to the secure the bead.
Attach Each Spider Leg onto the Spider’s Body
Next, thread the unbeaded end of each spider leg through 8 of the hole punched holes.
Leave one hole at the bottom of the circle for elastic or string.
Tie a Piece of Elastic to Create Spider Silk
Tie a piece of elastic through the last hole.
Assemble the Spider’s Face and Select a Smile
Select a pair of eyes and glue to the small circle.
Use the drawing prompt as inspiration to draw a spider smile.
Attach the Head to the Spider’s Body
Once the spider’s head is complete, glue it to the spider’s body.
Fold 5 Circles in Half
Now, fold the remaining 5 circles in half.
Layer the Circle and Secure with Glue
Keep the circles folded and glue one semi-circle on top of the other.
Open the Layered Paper Circle to Reveal the 3D Spider’s Body
Once all the semi-circles have been glued, hold the two ends of the pile and unfold all the semi-circles to reveal the 3D paper spider’s body.
Attach the 3D Paper Bauble to the Spider’s Body
Next, apply lots of glue to the spider’s body and glue the flat side of the bauble to the body of the spider.
The 3D Paper Spider Craft Tutorial is Complete
Your Arty Crafty Kids will now have a fabulous 3D Paper Spider to play with or hang up on display. Perhaps they could also create a web for their spiders!
