Watch the Step-by-Step Tutorial for How to Make a Snowman Pop-Up Christmas Card:
Step 1: Paint the Snowman Template and Background
To begin, choose a favorite medium (ours is paint) and color in the Snowman.
Next, color in the background. For inspiration, take a look at our Wintery Tree Art Idea.
However your Arty Crafty Kids choose to color in their Christmas cards, be mindful not to color too hard over the guidance rectangular shapes positioned around the snowman’s stick arms – these will help to guide the pop-up cutting!
Step 2: Personalize the Snowman by Drawing an Expression
Once the background and snowman is colored in, use marker pen to draw the snowman a face and buttons ons the body.
Step 3: Use Acrylic Pens or Markers to Draw Snowflakes
Here, we’ve used white and gold acrylic pens to draw snowflakes on the blue background. Arty Crafty Kids can take their creativity further by drawing a complete Christmas scene with presents, Christmas tree’s and maybe even a reindeer.
Step 4: Cut out the Snowman Pop-Up card insert and Fold it in Half
Step 5: Carefully Cut Along the Outline of the Snowman to the Rectangular Flap
Start from the bottom of the snow ball and carefully cut out the snowman up to the rectangular flap.
Once you reach the flap, cut along its sides (top and bottom) and leave the land edge of the rectangle uncut.
Step 6: Fold the Snowman Away from the Center to Create a Silhouette
Carefully fold the snowman away from the center of the insert to create a crease along the uncut rectangular edge.
Step 7: Fold the Card Back on Itself and Pull the Snowman Away from the Center Fold
Now fold the card insert back on itself, pulling the Snowman away from the center fold.
Step 8: Fold a Piece of Cardstock in Half and Affix the Pop-up Snow Insert Inside.
Fold a piece of colorful card stock in half and open it up.
Place the folded insert insider and align it along the center fold.
Apply lots of glue to the white sides and affix to the colorful cardstock.
Ta-da, the Snowman Pop-up Christmas card is complete!
