Santa’s Stuck in the Chimney: A Funny Christmas Craft – This year, we’re kickstarting the festive season with a bit of cheeky fun!
Our Santa’s Stuck craft will have kids of all ages – and parents too! – going ho ho ho with laughter, as Santa’s bottom wiggles and jiggles as he struggles to get down the chimney.
Children can explore movement and depth with Santa’s 3D bouncy bottom, and play with different textures to create effects with print or splatter snow and fuzzy cotton wool trim.
It all makes for a really fun, tactile and interactive craft, that also makes a great alternative holiday card, silly decoration or classroom display.
How to Make: Santa’s Stuck in the Chimney!
Supplies:
Colored Cardstock
White Cardstock for Printing
White Paint (& colored if painting the template)
Coloring Medium – Paint, Pencils, Pens, Crayons etc
Cotton Wool Balls and Pads
Scissors
Gluestick

Let’s Get Started with our Funny Christmas Craft!
If you’re coloring in the template yourself, start by using your paints, pencils or crayons to decorate the different Santa elements and the chimney.
Add Snowy Dots to the Background
Then start to build the snowy background. You could use the end of a paintbrush to create dots or use your fingertips, you could have a go at bubble wrap printing or even using a brush to create paint splatter! Whichever technique you choose, just have fun!
Cut out the Santa and Chimney Elements
Then carefully cut out all of the elements from the template so you’re ready to start building the silly festive scene.
Turn a Flat Cotton Pad into Snow
Take a flat cotton pad and cut it in half. Then snip a wavy pattern along the curved edge so it looks like snow.
Create a Snowy Chimney
Stick the cotton pad snow onto the chimney, lining the straight edge of the snow to the top of the chimney.
Assemble Santa’s Boots
Then stick Santa’s red trousers to his big black boots, and cover the join by sticking on some fluffy cotton wool.
Let’s Make a Spring ( Accordion Fold)
Using scissors or a paper cutter, cut two even strips of red card or paper.
To create the right sized strip, cut the paper from the shortest side of an A4 piece of paper – or the longest side of a piece of card – and make the strips at least an inch or so wide.
Take the two strips and position them in a 90° angle, like the corner of a picture frame (as shown above), and glue the connecting papers together.
Fold the bottom strip over the top and crease the fold along the edge. This will make the accordion fold nice and tight!
Continue this process, folding the bottom over the top and creasing, until all the paper has been folded up.
Then seal the ends with glue so your accordion fold doesn’t come undone.
The Chimney
Cover the side flaps with glue and gently curl the paper round to form a chimney shape .
Secure the Chimney
Then stick firmly in the middle at the bottom of your snowy background.
Secure the Spring
Now stick the spring onto the background just above the chimney. This will hold Santa’s bottom as it wiggles and jiggles as he tries to squeeeeze down that chimney!
Secure the Bottom and Legs
Carefully glue Santa’s bottom onto the other end of the spring and glue his trousers to the background behind – don’t stick his boots down though, we’re going to give them an extra lift!
Add a Small Lift to the Boots
Cut a strip lengthwise from a sheet of black A4 card, and cut it in half. Take the first strip, curl it around to make a ring and secure it with a spot of glue so it doesn’t come undone. Repeat with the second strip.
Stick one side of each loop to Santa’s boot, and the other side to the background, for a bit of extra bounce!
