Let’s Make a Christmas Tree Pop-Up Greetings Card!
Step 1: Paint the Christmas Tree Template and Background
To begin, choose a favorite medium (ours is paint) and color in the Christmas Tree.
Next, color in the background. For inspiration, take a look at our Wintery Tree Art Idea.
However your Arty Crafty Kids choose to color in their trees, be mindful not to color too hard over the guidance rectangular shapes positioned at the top of the Christmas tree – these will help to guide the pop-up cutting!
Step 2: Use Acrylic Pens or Markers to Decorate the Christmas Tree and Draw Snowflakes
Use a mixture of mediums to decorate the tree. Here, we’ve used white and gold acrylic pens to draw snowflakes and snowfall on the Christmas tree and colored marker pens to draw baubles.
Step 3: Cut out the Christmas Tree Pop-Up card insert
Step 4: Fold the Insert in Half
Use the faded dotted lines above and below the Christmas tree to help guide the folding.
Step 5: Carefully Cut Along the Outline of the Tree up to the Rectangular Flap
Start from the trunk of the tree and carefully cut out the tree up to the rectangular flap.
Once you reach the flap, cut along its sides (top and bottom) and leave the land edge of the rectangle uncut.
Step 6: Fold the Christmas Tree Away from the Center Silhouette
Carefully fold the tree away from the center of the insert to create a crease along the uncut rectangular edge.
Step 7: Fold the Christmas Tree the Other Way
Step 8: Fold the Card Back on Itself and Pull the Christmas Tree Away from the Center Fold
Now fold the card insert back on itself, pulling the Christmas tree away from the center fold.
Step 9: Fold a Piece of Cardstock in Half and Affix the Pop-up Christmas Tree Insert Inside.
Fold a piece of colorful card stock in half and open it up.
Place the folded insert insider and align it along the center fold.
Apply lots of glue to the white sides and affix to the colorful cardstock.
Step 10: Ensure Both Sides of the Insert are Firmly Affixed to the Backing Cardstock
Open up the Christmas card and ensure both sides of the insert are firmly affixed to the cardstock.
Gently pull the Christmas tree away from the backing card to enhance the pop-up!
Step 11: Carefully Fold the Card in Half, Again Pulling the Christmas Tree Gently Away from the Center
Ta-da, the Christmas Tree Pop-up card is complete!
