Watercolor Doodle Cats Step-by-Step Drawing Tutorial
Step 1: Using a brush, apply water directly to the paper.
To create fun and interesting color blends, our watercolor spots are painted with the wet-on-wet watercolor painting technique.
In simple terms, wet paint is applied to wet paper.
This allows the paint to move within the water and spread in unpredictable ways, creating vibrant and unique patterns. Kids love watching how the colors mix and flow, producing surprising and magical effects.
Step 2: Apply paint to the water spot.
Mix the watercolor paint with a damp brush and then dab the color onto the wet spot on the paper.
The paint will move and flow within the wet area and if your Arty Crafty Kids add a second color, the paints will spread and blend together.
With this technique, there’s no need for precise brush strokes—just a simple tap here or there to keep the paint moving.
Fill the paper with as many watercolor spots as your Arty Crafty Kids desire.
These spots may vary in size, shape, and color. In fact, variety is encouraged as it will inspire more creativity when drawing their doodle cats.
Step 3: Draw the ears, eyes, and nose of the first cat.
Using a pencil or a fine-tipped black pen, start drawing the features of the first cat.
For simplicity, draw triangles for the ears, two small dots for the eyes, and a heart-shaped nose.
Two small arches can serve as the paws, and don’t forget to add a tail!
With just a few simple lines and shapes, your Arty Crafty Kids will have completed their first cat.
As the kids progress through the watercolor spots, encourage them to experiment with different facial expressions by varying the shapes of the eyes, whiskers, and paws.
Cats come in all shapes, sizes, and patterns! Encourage your Arty Crafty Kids to get creative by adding a variety of details. Try incorporating different spots, stripes, and other patterns to make each cat unique.
Play around with different shapes and sizes for the ears, eyes, and tails. Adding a mix of textures and designs will not only make each cat stand out but also inspire more imaginative and individualized creations.
This approach helps children explore their artistic skills while making every doodle cat a special work of art.
