Our Tape Resist Polar Bear Painting for kids is like traditional tape art but with a unique twist! While retaining the fun and excitement of the tape resist process, this approach adds a polar bear focal point and a Wintry theme!
This super easy Winter art project is great for kids of all ages. It encourages kids’ to think about line work, shapes and how they use color to enhance the polar bear.
To take the painting a step further, older children can use our easy How to Draw a Polar Bear tutorial to draw their very own outline!
Kids can also pair this polar bear with our penguin tape resist painting idea!
What is Tape Resist Art?
Tape resist art uses tape to make shapes on a surface that gets painted over. After the paint dries, taking off the tape reveals the unpainted areas or hidden patterns.
Kids love it because they can create clean designs and play with different colors. And uncovering the final result adds a magical and exciting element to the fun process!

Written Step-by-Step Polar Bear Painting Tutorial
Step 1: Prepare the Penguin Template
Place tape along all sides of the printed polar bear template, leaving a 1cm border along each edge.
Step 2: Create a Pattern with Tape
You can attach the tape both vertically and horizontally across the polar bear, using smaller pieces to form different geometric shapes for an abstract result.
Step 3: Paint the Polar Bear
Prior to painting, encourage the Arty Crafty Kids to pause and consider their color choices.
They might opt for wintry shades like blue, pink, and purple; experimenting with contrasting and complementary colors.
After the kids have chosen their color scheme, start coloring the polar bear.
Use the paint to cover the tape, creating defined and beautiful lines.
For an added touch of the Winter theme and to make the painting more interesting, use a paintbrush to scatter white paint over the penguin.
This will produce an abstract ‘snowfall’ effect.
Step 4: Carefully Remove the Tape
While the paint is still wet (this prevents the tape from sticking too much), delicately remove the tape to unveil the finished artwork!
The tape resist penguin painting is complete – we adore how it turned out!
