We love heart-themed art projects and have lots of painting ideas inspired by famous artists. The tape resist concept could easily be combined with techniques inspired by Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Romero Britto or even the pop art artist Jim Dine!
And to add variety to the heart templates, we also have lots of heart coloring pages for your Arty Crafty Kids to choose from.
What is Tape Resist Art?
In tape resist art, kids place tape on a surface to create patterns and shapes, and then paint over it.
Once the paint dries, they peel off the tape, revealing the unpainted areas.
The process is so much fun for kids as they can make interesting designs and explore various color combinations. Discovering the final result adds a sense of excitement and wonder to the whole process!

Written Step-by-Step Heart Painting Tutorial
Step 1: Prepare the Heart Template
Apply tape to each of the templates sides to secure it to the table.
Step 2: Create a Pattern with Tape
Use the thinner tape to create a pattern across the template.
The tape can be stuck vertically and horizontally across the heart with smaller pieces cut to create various geometric shapes.
Step 3: Paint the Heart
Before the Arty Crafty Kids start painting, ask them to take a moment to think about their color scheme.
Exploring warm/cool colors is a great a way to incorporate a color study into the art project.
Next, paint the surrounding space around the heart.
To help make the heart stand out, encourage your Arty Crafty Kids to use a palette of contrasting colors.
Step 3: Carefully Remove the Tape
While the painting is still wet (this will prevent the tape from getting too stuck!), carefully peel the tape away to reveal the results!
And in just 3 simple steps, the tape resist heart painting is complete!
