DIY Valentine Card Step-by-Step
Before diving in, set up the workspace by putting small amounts of paint on a paper plate or palette. Attach a pom-pom to each color.
You can either clip a clothespin to each pom-pom, or for an extra fine motor boost, preschoolers can use a single clothespin to pick up each pom-pom when switching colors.
Step 1: Cut the heart shapes.
To encourage preschoolers to have a go at cutting the heart shapes themselves, they’re outlined with lovely bold black lines.
Step 2: Start printing around a heart shape.
Place the heart shape into the middle of a folded piece of white card stock.
Next, pick up the first pom-pom with a clothespin and print around the outline of the heart shape.
Continue printing around the heart with different colors.
Filling the entire valentine card with layered colors.
Step 3: Reveal the heart silhouette.
Once your preschooler has finished painting, carefully remove the heart to reveal the heart silhouette.
Step 4: Draw an emoji expression.
Use a black marker pen to draw an adorable emoji expression – this adds a playful quality to the completed Valentine card.
Finish the expression with a pair of rosy cheeks either painted with a paintbrush or printed with a fingerprint.
Once the card is dry, open it up and write a sweet Valentine message.
