Written Step-by-Step Pop Art Hearts Painting Tutorial
Step 1: Paint Confetti Strokes
Print the Happy Heart Grid Templates onto white card stock – be sure to check printer settings!
Without thinking too much about it, select a color and simply paint random strokes of paint all over the grid.
Use different colors to layer the paint strokes. They can be any size and fall in any direction.
Creating a ‘confetti’ type appearance.
As your Arty Crafty Kids, perhaps engage them in a discussion about color choices and how they reflect their feelings.
Step 2: Paint the Hearts
Pop art is all about contrasting elements. With such a colorful background, paint the hearts in similar shades of one color, for instance red, pink and purple.
With such a colorful background, paint the hearts in similar shades of one color, for instance red, pink and purple.
Maybe add a random contrasting color to offset the red.
Once the heart is painted, use black (or another dark color) paint to brush around the outline of the heart.
This will add emphasis to the shape.
Step 3: Cut out the Hearts
Dine was part of different art groups, like Neo-Dada, where they used things like cut-out pictures and found objects in their art.
Step 4: Glue the Heart onto the Colorful Background.
This feature of the art project pays homage to one of the Jim Dine’s artistic techniques – the collage!
And in this instance, the heart shape stands out nicely on the colorful background, making it ‘pop!’
