They say that you’re either a cat person or a dog person, and following the success of our recent ‘Cool Cat Newspaper Art Project’ post, it would appear that more than just a few of you are dog people. My inbox has been inundated with requests for a dog template! And even as a self-confessed lady, I can’t resist a pair of cute puppy dog eyes and have created a ‘Playful Pup Newspaper Art Project’ for all you dog lovers and paw patrol fans.

So gather the kids, print off the template and raid the recycling bin for your old magazines and newspapers!

Black Stock Card
Newspaper/Magazines or Scrap Paper

Playful Pup Tutorial!
Step 1: Gather the materials and present them to your Arty Crafty Kids with a pair of scissors and a pot of PVA glue.
This is a great opportunity for children to practice their scissor skills and use creative thinking to reuse the materials presented.
While we have used a black card backing, many of our subscribers replaced the black with fluorescent colours and coordinated their pups and cats with the backdrop. One reader went a step further and created a DIY picture frame out of dyed craft sticks!
Step 3: Trace around the body parts onto newspaper and magazine scaps and cut the shapes out.
Have a good flick through the papers, selecting different colours and patterns, paying special attention to the fabrics and patterns of clothes and furniture – some real gems can be found!
Oh, and if you’re paying attention to the image above, you will notice that we have 4 eye patch cutouts, as two double as paw points for a standing playful pup position.
Step 5: Arrange the body parts to form a ‘playful pup’ – we have featured four playful poses, are there any more?
