Sharing is caring!
Kids can have fun with watercolors and add a splash of abstract flair to their Easter egg painting with our Kandinsky Watercolor Easter Egg Art project!
This simple yet engaging painting idea kicks off with a free Easter egg template, which is suitable for kids of all ages to color and enjoy!
Our Kandinsky art with an Easter-themed twist is not only a fun way to learn about famous artists, but it also provides Arty Crafty Kids with a hands-on opportunity to experiment with color-mixing.
How to Make Kandinsky Watercolor Easter Egg Art:
Since the egg shapes are round like Kandinsky’s famous ‘concentric circles‘ painting, this Easter-themed adaptation is a fantastic way for young children to get experimental with color-mixing – just like Kandinsky himself!
Before diving in, start by having a quick conversation about the primary colors (red, yellow and blue) and how mixing any two will create a brand new color called a secondary color (orange, green and purple).
And if they’re wowed by this magic, expand the conversation to introduce tertiary colors – this is where a primary color is mixed with a secondary color.

Step-by-Step Painting Tutorial
Step 1: Applying the watercolor paint within the Easter eggs.
The vibrancy of the colors will depend on how much water is mixed with the paint.
Lots of water will decrease the opacity of the color, making it easy to spread and mix. Less water will have the opposite effect.
Arty Crafty Kids can have fun experimenting with these two simple watercolor techniques.
Step 2: Play with color.
Continue painting the Easter eggs; filling the shapes with multiple layers of different colors.
Arty Crafty Kids can explore combinations of warm and cool colors for contrast or play with different hues of one shade.
Step 3: Paint the squares.
To help the Easter eggs stand out (or pop out) from the page, paint the surrounding square a contrasting color.
Step 4: Paint each square a different color.
To enhance the abstract effect and capture the style of Kandinsky, paint each square a different color.
